The ODF is tracking lightning strikes from Monday afternoon’s storm
The Oregon Department of Forestry is monitoring the wilderness between Soda Mountain and I-5 just north of the California border for smoke after the area was hit by five to 10 lightning strikes Monday afternoon.
Local Employment Up by 106 Jobs May to June
Josephine County total payroll employment rose by 270 jobs in June. Most of the increase was due to seasonal hiring in leisure and hospitality, which gained 160 jobs over the month.

Puff’s Smoke Shop Appeals Pot License Denial
Mike Welch, owner of Puff’s Smoke Shop in Ashland, has appealed the state’s decision to deny him a license for a medical marijuana dispensary. He had been operating a dispensary called Siskiyou Medical Supply inside his shop since last year but was ordered to close it on April 30th
ODOT Plan: Narrow Highway 99 Lanes from Medford to Phoenix & Add Bike Lanes
The Oregon Department of Transportation will explain their draft corridor plan at an open house Thursday in Talent. The plan calls for vehicle lanes on highway 99 from Medford to Talent to be narrowed to allow for bike lanes.
Oregon State Trooper’s Incident Log
Sunday morning at about 10:49 a Trooper stopped a Honda Civic that was dragging a large piece of its front bumper on the road. The driver, Ian McLaren, 27, of Williams, stated he heard a noise but didn’t know what it was. Dispatch advised McLaren was driving while suspended and was wanted for a probation violation out of Linn County. He was cited and released plus his Honda was towed.
Motorcyclist dies in crash near Gold Hill
A motorcyclist died in a crash near Gold Hill on Highway 234 near milepost nine at approximately 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
Domestic Incident Saturday leads to Crash and Power Outage
Around 5:15pm Saturday, Officers from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety responded to a domestic disturbance near Gilbert Creek Park. As officers were en-route the incident became mobile.

Latest Medford Fires may add to Arson Total
Since June 25th, 14 fires in the Medford area have been ruled arsons. Three more fires extinguished Saturday were determined to be human caused and will likely up the arson total to 17.
