Street Closure
Construction crews begin widening Terry Lane between D Street and Fairview Avenue today. The project is expected to last three days. Commuters should expect intermittent closures.

Access for emergency personnel will be maintained throughout the project.

Vandals Trash Central Point Classrooms
Four Scenic Middle School classrooms were vandalized the day before classes were to start, causing about $10,000 in damage.

A teacher discovered the mess Tuesday and notified police about 10:40 a.m.

Land-use consultant guest on Wednesday Talk Show
Land-use consultant Bob Hart is Scott Jorgensen’s guest on the KAJO Wednesday Talk Show tomorrow.

Hart works as a private consultant after working for the Josephine County Planning Department for years. The topic is local land-owner Ward Ockenden’s struggle with Josephine County over land-use issues, and he and Scott will discuss the state’s land-use systems and the efforts of the Josephine County Land Development Advisory Committee.

Dudley appears in Grants Pass, Medford tomorrow
Chris Love Dudley, the wife of Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Dudley, will make a pair of appearances in Southern Oregon tomorrow at Women Love Dudley events.

The first is in Grants Pass at the Taprock Grill on 971 Southeast 6th Street at 2:30 p.m. The gathering is in the Evergreen Room.

Jackson County parks winding down starting this week
With fall temperatures starting the fall in the mountains, seven Jackson County parks will be closed or have limited access beginning this week.

Grizzly Peak campground at Howard Prairie Lake is closed today, while Willow Point closes on September 20 and Klum Landing and Lily Glen on October 18.

Teenagers can go to jail in Josephine County
Teenagers 16 or 17 years old charged with serious crimes in Josephine County will be sent to jail rather than a juvenile facility.

The Daily Courier reports the Josephine County sheriff's office has changed its policy after learning that three 16-year-old boys charged with assault were transferred to the jail from juvenile detention last week.

Council to wait on builders' extension
The Grants Pass City Council today decided not to officially adopt an ordinance that would grant a one-time two-year extension for all building projects approved since 2008.

Health Policy Board to Visit Medford
The new Oregon Health Policy Board will visit Medford September 15th to explain its options and engage the public.

The 2009 legislature instructed the board to contain costs by combining purchasing power of scattered agencies under the Oregon Medical Insurance Pool.

Oak Flat Fire Surrounded, Soon
Firefighers expect to fully contain the 7,494 acre Oak Flat fire by sundown today. The cost of battling the blaze is now over $17 million and will be upwards of $20 million by the time all the restoration is complete.

County Commissioners Meet Briefly
The County Commissioners agenda this morning is a brief one with the meeting scheduled for only 30 minutes, from nine to nine-thirty, basically dealing with normal housekeeping items.

Then the Commissioners will adjourn and head to Indian Mary Park where they’ll participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony officially opening the new boat ramp.
