Sewer Work Begins Monday on 5th Street
Construction crews will begin work Monday on the 5th Street sewer project. The project will run from “F” Street to “C” Street.
Drivers should expect intermittent delays as traffic may be down to one lane.
Dam Removal Triggers Mosquito Swarms
Enormous swarms of flood-water mosquitoes have hatched in the muddy sloughs drained from behind where Gold Ray Dam was.
The theory is the mass disturbance of water during the draining of the sloughs that began August 10th, pushed water over eggs laid long ago by flood water mosquitoes and they hatched by the millions.
1,000 Firefighters Work to Contain Oak Flat Fire
The 760 firefighters plus 12 additional 20 man hand crews are working to contain the Oak Flat Fire that has burned over 5,360 acres about 20 miles southwest of Grants Pass.
The additional personnel were called in after the fire jumped the northern containment lines late Wednesday afternoon.
Fire forces Almeda Park to close, Jefferson State music fest to move
Almeda Park will be closed this weekend, beginning tomorrow, to accommodate fire fighters active this weekend.
The park is expected to re-open by Labor Day.
Kids Bike Rodeo set for Labor Day weekend
With school starting in the next couple of weeks, the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety will make sure youths in the community are aware of bicycle safety and know the laws through a Kids Bike Rodeo at the Grants Pass Shopping Center Saturday September 4.
Examiners to assess GP law enforcement next week
A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, or CALEA will be in town next week to examine the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety’s law enforcement policy and procedures.
The assessment is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation. The city’s law enforcement division has received CALEA accreditation since 1993.
RV catches fire during Wednesday afternoon heat
In yesterday’s triple-digit heat in the Rogue Valley, it’s not surprising anything could combust, including a power line.
A power line at Earl’s RV Center, on Monument Drive near Merlin, caused a 30-to-35-foot RV to catch fire, that nearly caught a building on the property to also go up in flames late yesterday afternoon.
Oak Flat Teams being Reinforced
The Oak Flat fire jumped it’s northern fire line yesterday during red flag conditions and the management team order 12 additional 20 person hand crews and three more helicopters to help contain the blaze.
Two of the helicopters requested have already joined the team and the hand crews are expected to be on the scene today bringing the total battling the fire back over one thousand personnel.
Medford Man Inducted into Video Hall of Fame
Rob Barret, 39, was inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame August 7th for earning the highest official score on a video arcade game called Tutankham.
"Healthy Kids are Cool" this Saturday
This Saturday is “Healthy Kids are Cool” day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Josephine County public health department on northwest Dimmick.
The event is a low cost immunization clinic and parents are asked to bring the child’s immunization record, insurance information or O H P card. The focus is to make sure the children vaccinations are current for the new school year.
