Council takes first step in annexation talks
The Grants Pass City Council took its first step toward considering annexation during this morning’s workshop session.
City Manager Laurel Samson referred to it as one of the major issues that the council will face over the next nine months. The first priority, she said, was considering service levels and funding issues for properties outside the city limits and inside the city’s Urban Growth Boundary.
Oak Flat Fire 55% Contained
The Oak Flat fire is 55% contained and after a late fly over with infrared equipment Sunday evening is measured at consuming 4,363 acres.
There are still over 1,000 people fighting the blaze, although the command center is slowly demobilizing, releasing some crews when they are no longer needed.
Umpqua Milk Back on the Shelves
Umpqua Dairy’s fluid milk products are back on the shelf and safe to consume.
The company says all fluid milk products in stores, such as milk, cream, and buttermilk, are coming from processing facilities other than the Roseburg plant that was the focus of an August 18th recall after it was linked to 23 cases of salmonella.

U.S. Forest Service officials are to officially lift the health advisory today after a blue-green algae bloom was revealed August 3rd.

Taxpayers Union USA is a political action committee co-founded by State Representative Sal Esquivel, a Medford Republican. The committee is aimed at galvanizing local residents worried about government spending.
Oak Flat Fire has Burned over 3,184 Acres
The Oak Flat fire was 40% contained as Sunday and had burned through 3,184 acres. Firefighters continue to make good progress and today are focusing on expanding and strengthening the existing fire lines.
The good weather with higher humidity and lower temperatures have aided fire crews to the point where some personnel will be released soon.
Jackson County Sheriff to Pay Trib's Legal Expenses
The Jackson County Sheriff must pay the Mail Tribune’s legal expenses, just over $20 thousand dollars, after the three year court battle over the names of concealed handgun licensees, which are public records.

City Council Schedules Special Meeting Monday
For the second Monday in a row the City Council will convene a special meeting at 11:30 a.m. at council chambers.
The meeting is to address the appointment of Ellen Tuohey to the Urban Growth Boundary Expansion Committee.
