Group Proposes 30 New RV Sites At Cantrall-Buckley

Brookings Man Charged after Crash takes out Power Pole, Fences, & Tree
Robert Degroot, 57, of Brookings was transported to the hospital Sunday afternoon with non-life threatening injuries after his 2008 Chevy Trailblazer crossed the centerline on Highway 99 south of Phoenix, went off the road, shearing off a telephone pole, going through three fences, and hitting a tree.

Critical Injury Rollover on Highway 62
Krystal Carrell, 43 of Trail was critically injured Sunday afternoon when her 94 Ford Explorer rolled on Highway 62 near milepost 30, 25 miles east of Medford.

Oak Flat Fire Update-650 Acres
The Oak Flat fire was an estimated 650 acres late Sunday. Saturday’s burning conditions led to a series of runs up the steep slopes of the Briggs Creek drainage approximately 20 miles west of Grants Pass, with firebrands sparking spot fires up to a half mile ahead of the main front.

Collection Cans a Misunderstanding, Not Fraud
Medford Police decided there was a misunderstanding, not fraud, when friends put out collection cans to help pay for the funerals of the young couple killed in the rollover accident in the Applegate.

GP City Council to Convene Special Monday Meeting
The Grants Pass City Council will convene a special meeting Monday at 11:30 in council chambers. The special meeting is to deal with a resolution authorizing the City Manager to submit an application for planning funds provided through HUD’s Community Challenge Planning and Tiger II Planning Grant Program.

Oak Flat area now up to 350 acres
The Oak Flat Fire on U.S. Forest Service land near the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area is now up to 350 acres as of this afternoon.

The area, about two miles northeast of a residential area at Oak Flat, and two miles northwest of Selma, experienced significant fire behavior due to high temperatures, typical upslope winds, and the difficult steep terrain, Paul Galloway of the U.S. Forest Service said.

Briggs Creek fire takes 40 acres by this morning
A fire at Briggs Creek on the Kalmiopis Wilderness Area has consumed a total of 40 acres on each side of the Illinois River – 35 on one side, with a five-acre spot fire across the river -- by this morning.

There are seven hotshot crews, three heavy helicopters and an airtanker battling the blaze today.

Paul Galloway from Oregon Department of Forestry said lines have been drawn near the 35-acre portion but that there is no estimate of containment. Firefighters had to rappel down to fight the five-acre blaze in the steep, brushy terrain.
