House Passes Forestry Bill
The U.S. House today approved a historic forestry bill, the Restoring Healthy Forests for Healthy Communities Act. The bill renews the federal government’s commitment to actively manage federal forests to create jobs in the woods, improve forest health, reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire, and generate revenue for local communities to provide essential local services like schools and law enforcement.
Grants Pass Woman Dies in Jackson County Crash
Brittany Jo Nieman, 26, of Grants Pass was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2008 Honda Civic she was a passenger in crashed into a tree last night on Sardine Creek Road in Gold Hill.

Grants Pass Transient Jailed on Mental Hold after Reporting for Court Hearing in Military Garb
Bryan Robert Thompson, 35, a Grants Pass transient, is being held in the county jail on a mental health warrant and a 2nd degree disorderly conduct charge after reporting for a hearing at the county courthouse wearing camouflage clothing, a black mask and carrying two large black bags.
Fire Danger Drops to High in Wild and Scenic Section of Rogue River
Shorter days, cooler temperatures and some rain have combined to reduce wildfire danger in the Wild and Scenic Section of the Rogue River. The Oregon Department of Forestry protects the segment of the river corridor between Grave Creek and Marial, and will lower the fire danger in this region to “high” or yellow tonight at 12:01 a.m.
Grants Pass Residents Indicted for Mail Theft and Bank Fraud
Gregory Brooks 49, and Michelle Lustig, 44, of Grants Pass, have been indicted by a federal grand jury charging them with conspiracy to commit mail theft and bank fraud and committing aggravated identity theft.
