Cave Junction man dies in fatal crash near Selma-UPDATED
A Cave Junction man died Sunday at approximately 3:00 a.m. in the 6000 block of Deer Creek Road near Selma when the 1999 Ford F250 pickup he was traveling in rolled.

Sleeping Car Thief Awakened By Medford P.D.
A suspected car thief received a rude awakening early Friday when Medford police found him sleeping in a Lexus SUV he allegedly stole, then decked out with a license plate he is suspected of pilfering to try to throw police off the scent. Sam Landes, 41, remained in the Jackson County Jail Friday afternoon on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and third-degree theft, according to jail records. His bail was set at $18,000.
Grants Pass City Activity
The signs warning swimmers of strong currents have arrived and city crews have already installed a few in Baker and Riverside Parks. More will be installed next week as staff is determining the best places to install the signs to achieve maximum exposure.
Segment of Pacific Crest Trail Closed Due to Fire Activity.
The Pacific Crest Trail located between Oregon State Highway 140 north to the Crater Lake National Park Boundary was closed at 12:01 Saturday morning. This portion of trail is approximately 25 miles in length.
Culvert Replacement to Cause Temporary Closer of Bear Camp Road
A short segment of the Bear Camp Road is scheduled to be temporarily closed for an approximate three-week period for culvert replacements. The closure period will begin on Tuesday, August 26, to start immediate work on the site. Pending no complications or delays, it is anticipated the road will re-open on Friday, September 19.

The Illinois Valley Airport Advisory Board has a regularly scheduled meeting Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Smokejumper Museum and the general public is invited.
Fire Update from Department of Forestry
Yesterday afternoon, a fire broke out on McConville Pk., 6 miles north/northwest of Gold Hill, and was originally estimated to be 4 acres and growing. Three helicopters, a retardant bomber, several engines and a bulldozer were dispatched. Within an hour, the fire was knocked down by water drops from the helicopters and one load of retardant.
