Thursday Controlled Burns
The Oregon Department of Forestry has three controlled burns today in our area.

The Department is burning one acre seven miles west of Grants Pass off of Riverbanks Road. Sixty-three acres are being torched eleven miles north of Rogue River and one acre is being burned six miles south of Rogue River.

Online Petition Calls for Gun Restrictions in Ashland
A group called “Citizens for a Safe Ashland” has launched an online petition calling for city regulations banning people from openly carrying loaded firearms in public places, including in vehicles in public areas. Who is involved in the group is unclear

Wednesday Public Safety incidents
James Laurie and Frederick Thompson were both arrested and lodged on multiple warrants at 410 S.E. J Street. Barbara Church was also lodged in jail at the scene on charges of interfering and hindering prosecution.

Car crash knocks out power on Dead Indian Memorial Road
A car crash Wednesday at roughly 9:12 a.m. on Dead Indian Memorial Road knocked out power for residents on Dead Indian and nearby Emigrant Creek Road for over five hours.

DeYoung New Council President; Sign Ordinance Passes; SDC’s Unchanged from Year End Increase
The Wednesday night City Council meeting began with a proclamation declaring January as Child Trafficking awareness month. The Council then opened the nominations for Council President for 2014 and closed the nominations as soon as Dan DeYoung, who was absent, was nominated. The vote was unanimous.

Eight Overnight Burglaries Reported in Medford
The Medford Police department reports they have responded to 8 business burglaries overnight. They believe several of the cases are the work of the same suspect, although no suspect information has been released.

Police respond to BCC Weekly Business Session
Officers from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety responded to the Anne Basker Auditorium today during the Josephine County Commissioners Weekly Business Session after County Commission Chair Cherryl Walker called authorities to report two individuals were creating a safety hazard.

Wednesday Controlled Burns
The Oregon Department of Forestry has two controlled burns scheduled today in Josephine County. Ten acres are being burned eight miles east of Cave Junction and five acres are being ignited seventeen miles east of Grants Pass.
