Dept. of Public Safety Receives Re-Accreditation
Interim Chief of the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, Bill Landis, announced the Department was awarded their 7th accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, known by the acronym of CALEA.

Secure Rural Schools Payments to Timber Counties to Be Dispersed Soon
The U.S. Forest Service says payments to timber counties under the last year of the Secure Rural Schools Act will be going out soon, and Oregon's share totals more than $60 million.
The agency announced the payments Friday.

.Public Safety Department had a Busy Week
The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety had a busy week with the City Police keeping the Jail beds almost full. 29 city jail beds were used Monday and Tuesday with 28 filled Wednesday and 27 on Thursday. Friday’s count is still being confirmed but a city councilor said the count was 36.

D.O.J. Investigating Jackson County Sheriff Candidate
The Oregon Department of Justice is in the midst of a criminal investigation of Jackson County Sheriff’s candidate Bob Sergi. The investigation was begun at the request of the Sheriff’s Department.

SOU Students Allege Housing Discrimination; City to Research Fair Housing Ordinance
Ashland’s College students say they are often denied rental opportunities because they’re students. Some rental advertisements state students need not apply. The Ashland City Council voted to have the housing and human services commission examine the issue.

Snowpack in Rogue Basin at 36%
The latest report from the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service on Friday shows snowpacks, the natural water storage system across the West, were at 36 percent for the Rogue and Umpqua Basins, 33 percent for the Klamath Basin and 46 percent in Lake County.
