Victim in fatal Cave Junction fire identified
The victim in a fatal fire that occurred early Friday morning at 222 Ollis Road has been identified.
Investigators say 57-year-old Kendell Wayne Phillips and his wife 54-year-old Tammie Phillips woke to a smoke alarm and saw fire in their laundry room. They called 911 and made it safely out of the residence. For an unknown reason, Kendell Phillips went back inside the burning residence and succumbed to smoke and heat before he was able to get out.
Investigators determined the fire was electrical in origin and was caused by an extension cord plugged into a window air conditioner.
The residence is considered a total loss.
