Commissioners Hold Emergency Discussion On Fire Impact on River Businesses
Josephine County Commissioners called an emergency general discussion meeting Friday morning in an effort to find economic development funds for outfitters along the Rogue River impacted by the closing of the river because of the fires.
Businesses such as Rogue Wilderness Outfitters and Orange Torpedoes are refunding as much as $10,000 daily to customers who are cancelling entire vacations to Southern Oregon because the Rogue River is closed. Total impact to businesses involved in rafting or related recreation businesses tied to the Rogue is estimated at $100,000 per day.
Commissioners pointed out the county does not have many resources to assist but will endeavor to open the avenues to economic development funds from the state and federal governments plus attempt to set up an attractive loan situation perhaps through SOREDI.
