Bear Camp Road Open; Big Windy 87% Contained
Josephine County Emergency Services officially re-opened Bear Camp Road at 6:00 this morning. All BLM roads off Bear Camp are closed. Should fire activity increased there is the possibility the closure will be implemented again.
Camping is now allowed on the north side of the Rogue River from Montgomery Creek to Quail Creek. Camping remains closed on the south side of the river in the same area.
The Big Windy fire, the cause of the closures, is now 87 percent contained after burning 24,253 acres. 290 fire fighters remain assigned to the fire.
The Douglas fire is officially 95 percent contained with fire personnel evaluating the situation, and may confirm 100% contained later today. A spokesperson for the Douglas Forest Protection Association estimates 100 personnel are checking containment and mopping up.
The Labrador fire burning in an inaccessible area northwest of Cave Junction remains at 2,023 acres with no containment. The Growth potential remains high for this fire, but it is being kept within its current area utilizing air resources.
