Ashland Bookkeeper Guilty of Embezzlement gets 2 Years Probation
Marcella L. Arrington, the 46-year-old former Ashland bookkeeper, entered guilty pleas to five counts of first-degree aggravated theft and one count of first degree theft in Jackson County Circuit Court. She was accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from Ashland-based Body Support Systems over five years.
Judge Lorenzo Mejia sentenced Arrington to two years of supervised probation during which time she can no longer work as a bookkeeper. She will have to pay an as yet undetermined amount of restitution. She has already returned $13,000 to the company.
The production manager of Body Support Systems says Arrington owes the business $126,000, but the state has yet to file an order determining the amount of economic damages.
Investigators say it is possible Arrington stole more than $100,000, but the statute of limitations expires after five years, ruling out the possibility of investigating deeper into her more than 10-year stint with the company.
