Ashland Plaza Transformed for Witherspoon Movie
Production crews have added green leaves to Ashland Plaza trees and are parking 1995 or older model cars on surrounding streets to reflect the proper time frame for the filming of “Wild”, starring Reese Witherspoon.
The film is based on Cheryl Strayed’s best-selling book about her solo trek on the Pacific Crest Trail in August of 1995, shortly after the death of the Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia.
Ashland drivers should expect street closures and detours during the production.
Winburn Way in Lithia Park and the Historic Ashland Armory on Oak Street will act as the crews' "base camp" through early Wednesday morning.
Expect closures on Winburn Way through 6 a.m. Wednesday. Today, streets immediately surrounding the Plaza, including Water, Oak and Main, will be closed until 4 p.m.
Traffic will be re-routed onto Lithia Way, similar to the Fourth of July parade routing.
Parking will be prohibited on side streets in the area until 6 p.m. or later. They include First, Second and Grant streets and Lithia Way.
