Multiple Fires Challenge Medford and Jackson County Crews
Multiple Fires Challenge Medford and Jackson County Crews

Medford and Jackson County firefighters worked as a Team in tackling three fires between midnight and daylight Saturday, resulting in the total loss of three buildings.

The first alarm sounded at 11:57pm Friday, with four engines and a water tender from Medford Fire-Rescue responding to the reported house fire at 3013 Dark Hollow Road. Jackson County Fire District No.5 arrived with additional resources almost immediately. Flames were visible from a mile away as crews raced to the scene, finding the 1 Ĺ story home and basement fully involved upon arrival. The home is considered a total loss. No injuries were reported and the cause is still under investigation.

As the Dark Hollow fire was being mopped up, alarms sounded for the Marie Callenderís Restaurant & Bakery blaze, requiring full coordination of regional firefighting assets. Additional multi-agency firefighters were called in to respond to the fire and provide coverage for crews already engaged. The Marie Callenderís structure at 1528 Biddle Road is a total loss. No injuries were reported and no cause had been determined.

With smoke still rising from the extinguished Marie Callenderís blaze, a third fire was reported at 4:43am in the territory covered by Jackson County Fire District No.3 near Eagle Point. Firefighters heard explosions as they approached a residential property in the 1000 block of Palima Drive. The explosions were caused by propane tanks igniting in a 26-foot motorhome and a 28-foot travel trailer parked near a 4000-square-foot shop already fully engulfed in flames. Four engines and 20 firefighters responded and had the fire knocked down by 5:13am. The blaze destroyed the vehicles and shop, which was filled with household belongings. The shop was unoccupied and no injuries were reported. A house located uphill from the shop was undamaged.
