Debris finally clear from I-5 truck crash
Debris from a truck that crashed while carrying a 185,000 pound concrete beam on I-5 four miles north of Canyonville has finally been cleared this morning.

The truck, driven by 44-year-old James A. Vance of Philomath, was traveling in the right-hand southbound lane at roughly 2:05 p.m. Tuesday when on a turn the heavy load toppled over and the truck came to a rest blocking the southbound lanes and pushing a concrete barrier into the leftmost northbound lane.

Vance was not injured and no other vehicles were involved. Oregon State Police cited Vance for failure to drive within his lane.

The concrete beam is one of nineteen beams slated for the Applegate Bridge project on the Redwood Highway southwest of Grants Pass. The accident is not anticipated to delay the project which is slated to go on a temporary hiatus before being complete in 2014.

Northbound traffic had one lane in use and detours were in place for southbound traffic throughout the night.
