Medford Truck Driver Parks in Upper Klamath Lake.
A commercial truck driver and his dog escaped serious injury Tuesday morning after his truck and trailer traveled off Highway 140 about six miles west of Klamath Falls and went into the ice covered Upper Klamath Lake.
At about 6:41 a.m. the truck, driven by Carl Hansen, 73, of Medford was eastbound on Highway 140 at milepost 58 when the truck traveled across the westbound lane, off the shoulder and onto the ice-covered lake. The big rig broke through the ice, coming to rest partially submerged.
Hansen escaped through the passenger side window and crawled across the ice to an embankment. He was taken to Sky Lakes Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
His dog was seen running on the ice and was rescued by Klamath County Fire District number one personnel.
State Police are continuing the investigation and ODOT is coordinating removal of the vehicle.
