Memorial Day Celebrations
Memorial Day was set aside to honor those who have laid down their lives for their country and Monday there are many events where citizens may pay their respects.

At 9:00 there is a gathering at the Oregon Fallen War Heroes Memorial in Don Jones Memorial Park on Vilas Road in Central Point. Senator Ron Wyden and Congressman Greg Walden will both be in attendance.

From there the elected officials will travel to the Eagle Point National Cemetery for a memorial service at 11 a.m. A crowd of about 2,000 is expected at the cemetery.

At that same time in Grants Pass, the Marine Corps League will host a ceremony at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Nearly 1,000 flags will be displayed in the Avenue of Flags. Then at noon the Boatnik Celebration will quiet for the Active Club’s salute to fallen veterans at Riverside Park.

American Legion Post 70 will put on three events in Cave Junction beginning with a 10 a.m. ceremony at City Hall. At 10:30 they will hold a ceremony at the World War I monument near Jubilee Park. The third event will be at 11 a.m. at Laurel Cemetery.

The Rogue River V.F.W. Post 4116 is putting out flags throughout the town and will host a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Woodville Cemetery.

The Williams Valley American Legion Post 50 is holding a Memorial Day event Monday at 11 a.m. at the post located at 132 Blodgett Road.
