Commissioners give early and increased funding to Josephine Community Libraries
The Josephine County Commissioners during their Weekly Business Session today approved $35,000 in economic development funds to the Josephine Community Libraries.

Libraries Executive Director Kate Lasky made the request last week during the commissionerís administrative meeting because the spring fundraising drive raised just over half of their $150,000 goal and the libraries need additional funding to accommodate an increasing number of patrons. Any funding acquired through a library district levy on the November ballot would not be delivered to the library until November 2015 and Lasky said that is her reason for seeking funding.

The commissioners typically give 10 percent of their annual economic development funds to the libraries which equates to $30,000. Comparatively, Jackson County gives their library system 90 percent of their economic development funds.

The commissioners also approved a contract amendment with Manatron, Inc., for the purchase of a tax assessment software system that will save the county approximately $200,000 over the next five or six years.
