Medford’s Hawthorne Park May Get a Makeover
Medford’s Hawthorne Park, known most recently as a magnet for vagrants, may get a makeover if the Medford Urban Renewal Agency authorizes the $1.65 million project.
The Medford Council had budgeted less than $1 million for the makeover and since then the agency has found enough money left from other projects to complete the improvements councilors wanted, including a splash pad, skate area, basketball courts and an expanded parking area.
Other improvements are an entry plaza, gardens, restrooms, play structures, a picnic shelter, dog park, walkways and improved lighting. An area has been set aside for a future pool.
The MURA Board may award the contract for the park project at its meeting tonight at 6 p.m. in the Medford City Hall; if awarded, construction would not start until September with completion projected for June of next year.
