Names Released in Fatal Pedestrian-Involved Crash near Kerby
Oregon State Police, along with the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office, is continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon’s fatal pedestrian-involved collision near Kerby.

The incident occurred around 3:30pm Friday on Highway 199 near milepost 27. 83-year-old Patricia M. Shafer of Cave Junction was traveling southbound in her 2011 Hyundai sedan when the car drifted across the fog line and struck 42-year-old Selma resident Russell Richard Brummett as he was walking along the southbound shoulder.

An emergency room doctor and two nurses traveling in the area stopped and provided emergency medical care and CPR, but were unable to resuscitate Brummett. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patricia Shafer stopped at the scene and is cooperating in the ongoing investigation. The District Attorney’s office will reserve any decision concerning charges or enforcement until conclusion of the investigation.

Highway 199 was closed for over 3 hours during the emergency response and scene investigation. OSP was also assisted by Illinois Valley Fire District and ODOT.
