Midnight Dumpster Fire Damages Dental Office Saturday
Shortly after midnight Saturday, Grants Pass Fire/Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at Grants Pass Dental on NE Jackson Street. Citizens driving by spotted a burning dumpster against the building, called 911, and stopped to pull the dumpster away from the wall.
A Grants Pass Police Officer arrived within a minute of the 911 dispatch, confirming the citizenís report and providing details to arriving fire personnel. The first Fire Engine and crew was on scene within minutes and quickly extinguished the fire. Damage was limited to the exterior of the two story building.
The fire originated in the dumpster, fueled by cardboard. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage to the dental office is estimated at $3,000 and the dumpsterís damage at $300.
Three Engines from Grants Pass Fire/Rescue responded along with an Engine from Rural Metro FD. An AMR ambulance also responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.
Fire crews extinguished two other trash receptacle fires earlier Friday evening, one at NE 6th and NE Midland, and another at 1000 NW Grant Street. Damage was confined to the containers. These fires are being investigated as well.
