Kidnapper found guilty of nabbing ex-girlfriend from parking lot
24-year-old Anthony McGuire was found guilty by a Josephine County jury Friday afternoon on charges of first-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree assault, strangulation, attempted elude, DUII, reckless driving and reckless endangering for an attack on his former girlfriend early last year.

McGuire is convicted of punching, strangling and kidnapping his former girlfriend Candice Bruder at the Red Rock Lounge on Feb. 21, 2012. McGuire attacked Bruder in the parking lot, threw her into the backseat of his truck and sped off. An officer spotted the speeding vehicle and took chase. McGuire lost the cop but was eventually spotted near D and Anderson streets. McGuire eventually crashed into the landscaping of the Taco Bell near Wal-Mart. He then sped away again but a call reporting a disturbance on Shannon Lane eventually led to his arrest.

Deputy District Attorney Ryan Mulkins says there are many signs that Bruder was kidnapped. Bruder had her friend’s keys and those were found in the bars parking lot, dropped during the alleged choking. Police officers testified that during the crash Bruder could be seen fighting McGuire in the cab.

Defense Attorney James Bronson said the entire case was built around the testimony of Bruder and her testimony changed multiple times.

McGuire is still awaiting sentencing.
