Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly using social media and text messaging to attempt to initiate a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

Detectives began investigating the incident last December and the investigation culminated with a search warrant that was served Thursday in the 900 block of S. Oakdale Street in Medford at the residence of Louis M. Medcalf. During the search, investigators located evidence relating to the case and a firearm.

Deputies arrested Medcalf on multiple charges of online sexual corruption of a child, luring a minor and a single count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Medcalf’s bail is set at $140,000.

Authorities believe Medcalf may have attempted to contact other minors using similar means and are asking anyone with information regarding this case to call the Sheriff’s Office at 541-774-8333.
