Shooting Results in One Arrested in Merlin Standoff With OSP-UPDATED
Oregon State Police arrested Stephen L. Powers, 68, early this morning after a standoff that lasted over seven hours in Merlin.
Troopers responded to the report of a shooting at the Shell gas station. Troopers found Jason L. Griego, 32, of Merlin suffered a minor injury to his hand, allegedly from Mr. Powers. Griego told Troopers Powers said if anyone showed up to arrest him he would shoot them all.
Troopers established a perimeter surrounding the Peach Street address around 5:00 p.m. and determined Powers had barricaded himself in the residence. SWAT personnel were deployed at the Merlin site and the man was taken into custody at approximately 12:30 this morning.
Griego was taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital where he was treated and released. Powers was lodged in jail on multiple charges including assault in the second degree, felon in possession of a weapon, negligently wounding, pointing a firearm at another, recklessly endangering, menacing, and unlawful use of a dangerous weapon. The investigation continues.
