Josephine County Residents Calling 211 More
Josephine County residents looking information on how to get help with many situations are calling 211, a non-profit referral service being provided under the auspices of the United Community Action Network, or UCAN.
From October 1st through December 31st, an average of 89 residents each month called 211 looking for information and help. That is an increase of 178 percent from the previous three months.
Energy bill payment assistance topped the list of caller needs when temperatures dropped and heating bills climbed.
211 is free and confidential. Callers are connected with a community information specialist who can access a robust database of government agencies, nonprofits, and faith based institutions.
People call with a range of needs, including everything from help paying bills to food pantries, health clinics, prescription assistance, counseling, support groups, low cost child care and job search assistance.
