District Seven Board contemplates changing long-standing schedule at GPHS
The School District Seven Board heard a presentation at their workshop today that discussed possible changes to Grants Pass High School’s schedule in order to improve student performance.

The current schedule, which includes seven 50 minute periods, has been used by the school for over 30 years.

The proposed changes include a block schedule which would involve students taking a total of seven classes scheduled for 90 minutes each with four courses taken on alternating days and three courses and a study hall taken on the other. The other hybrid option would allow students to take seven classes at 68 minutes each with five of them being held a day. These would then alternate so a student would attend a single class twice within any three day period. This schedule would allow for “Cave Time” which would be a half hour segment daily dedicated to teacher participated study hall and a single period every three days that students could dedicate to catching up on homework.

Normally the schedule for the next school year must be finalized by the end of February but the administrators researching the issue said they would take more time to make sure the new schedule is done correctly.
