Felon caught with handgun after attempting to steal ammo from Black Bird
A felon was caught with a handgun after police became suspicious of reports of him attempting to steal ammo from the Black Bird store on W. Main Street in Medford.
A Medford Police Department news release indicates store employees noticed 24-year Andrew James Caucutt in the store at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday acting suspicious as if he was going to steal .40 caliber ammunition and a holster. Employees called police who contacted Caucutt at the scene but released him due to no actual theft occurring.
Evidence indicated Caucutt, who is a convicted felon barred from owning a firearm, possessed a gun. Authorities served a search warrant at his residence in the 200 block of Wilson Road in Central Point where they located a Springfield Arms XDM semi-automatic .40 caliber handgun within reach of a 5-year-old child.
Investigators determined the gun was stolen from the 2600 block of Terr-mont Street in White City during an Oct. 31 burglary.
Caucutt is lodged on charges of felon in possession of a firearm, theft, reckless endangerment and probation violation.
