Suspect sentenced for attempted sex crimes
A suspect was sentenced today to seven years and one month in prison for charges of attempted first-degree rape, sodomy, sexual abuse and unlawful sexual penetration in Josephine County Circuit Court.
23-year-old Travis Shelby Smith pled guilty last week to the charges that allege he attempted to commit sex crimes against a girl under the age of 12 during four different incidents from Aug. 1, 2007, through Nov. 19, 2011. He was originally arrested in February, 2012, and he was charged with the above crimes without the attempt modification.
Judge Lindi Baker also ordered Smith to pay a $2,000 compensatory fine to the victim.
