Firefighters manage some containment of Big Windy
Firefighters made some decent progress on the Big Windy Fire located 25 miles northwest of Grants Pass and are for the first time reporting some containment of the blaze at 5 percent. The fire has burned 12,631 acres and is staffed by 1,339 firefighters, 48 engines and four helicopters. Crews continue burnout and mop-up operations today on the east and southeast flanks and the west and southwest flanks.
The Douglas Complex of Fires located seven miles northwest of Glendale is now at 28 percent containment. The fire has burned 42,651 acres altogether and is staffed by 3,148 firefighters, 115 engines and 22 helicopters. CORP Railroad continues trestle and track repair.
The Labrador Fire 13 miles northwest of Cave Junction is still listed at 2,020 acres. The fire is manned by 185 firefighters, six engines and five helicopters. The fire remains at 0 percent containment and helicopters continue an aggressive air strike campaign.
