Firefighters Gain on Douglas; Increased Fire Activity on Big Windy
The 2,338 firefighters have gained on the Douglas complex of fires and it is now listed as 55 percent contained having consumed 45,698 acres so far. The growth potential for this fire remains extreme.
Commercial timber companies are in discussion with the Incident Command team about the ability to return to the fire area.
The Big Windy fire showed increased activity yesterday and grew an addition 200 acres and is now listed at 15,700 acres burned. Containment figures remain at 15 percent with many of the 1,243 fire fighters faced with flames of one to four feet. The estimated containment date for the Big Windy is estimated for September First.
The Labrador Fire grew another acre yesterday in inaccessible terrain and is now listed at 2023 acres. The 71 firefighters continue to patrol and monitor the fire in the Oak Flat residential area. Additional air support was needed yesterday in areas of isolated heat. The growth potential for the Labrador remains high.
