Council gives staff approval to continue work on unfunded projects
The Grants Pass City Council gave staff approval during their Monday Workshop to continue work on unfunded projects.
Several projects that were funded were put on hold Aug. 1 because the city opted to use over $1 million in capital project funds to rent 30 beds at the Josephine County Jail.
Unfunded capital projects included items like the Fruitdale Trail for $100,000, $110,000 of the Soccer Complex fund and $125,000 for a replacement of the HVAC system in the municipal building.
Several of the projects, such as the Soccer Complex, still have funds in their accounts and City Manager Aaron Cubic wanted to make sure council was accepting of that money being used towards planning for construction. After discussion, council approved of the drafting of plans for projects that still had funding. Additionally, Councilor Dennis Webber said city staff should be informed opportunists and if funding from a private entity became available staff should help facilitate acquiring the funds and pursuing the project. The council was also in favor of this idea.
