An intoxicated driver who crashed his pickup into a station wagon just after midnight on June 2 at the intersection of Williams Highway at Redwood Highway was sentenced by Judge Thomas Hull today to 80 months in prison.
33-year-old Charles James Novak was driving his pickup at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light and slammed into the side of a station wagon driven by Kevin Gilmore. Gilmore’s daughter suffered a punctured lung, lacerated liver and head injury, his son broke his femur and Gilmore himself tore a bicep and suffered several torn ligaments. A passenger in Novak’s truck also suffered a broken foot. Novak himself was uninjured and had a 0.31 percent alcohol level when tested by police.
Novak had previously pled guilty to multiple charges including second-degree assault, third-degree assault and DUII.
