City Police Utilizing Rented Jail Beds
The Grants Pass City Police are utilizing their jail beds rented from the Josephine County Jail. According to a release from City Manager Aaron Cubic, the average daily population for the month of August was 17. The total number of inmates booked was 144 for a total of 528 bed nights.
Monday of this week the city filled 30 beds and actually had to release two because of capacity limits. Tuesday saw 26 beds filled, Wednesday, 19, Thursday 18, and Friday 17.
This month expect more beds to be utilized because the city has transitioned to a minimum of 20 inmates per day.
Comments from surprised inmates ranged from, it should be a “slap on the hand” after he had attempted to steal $220 worth of clothing from Fred Meyer; and when a female learned she was going to jail instead of being issued a citation to appear, she threw a tantrum and asked “when did that change?”
