Beaverton Man Jailed in JoCo Jail after 100 MPH Chase & Fight with Troopers
State Troopers arrested Isaiah Lemuel Haywood, 25, of Beaverton this morning and lodged him in the Josephine County Jail on felony attempt to elude, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
The first of three citizen complaints came into the Troopers at 6:58 a.m. reporting a black SUV traveling at high speed northbound on I-5 out of the Medford area. Following the 3rd report of the 2008 Land Rover passing between two vehicles at approximately 100 miles per hour, two Troopers began looking for the SUV near Grants Pass.
At 7:15 the Land Rover was spotted northbound near milepost 61 and Troopers initiated a traffic stop at the Manzanita Rest Area. Haywood slowed to a stop, then accelerated, pulling out of the rest area north bound at speeds of over 100 miles per hour in an effort to escape.
The vehicle was forced to slow at the construction zone near milepost 69 at which point a Trooper deployed a tactical Vehicle intervention bringing the SUV to a stop. Traffic was stopped because Haywood refused to exit the vehicle. Troopers broke out the rear window of the Land Rover and then deployed pepper spray and a Taser to take the resisting driver into custody.
