Cavemen Drop Close Contest to Tornado
Zac Hannanís 93 yard kickoff return to start the second half of a Southwest Conference contest between North Medford and Grants Pass at Mel Ingram Field Friday night brought the fans to their feet but it wasnít enough to subdue the Black Tornado who gained a 28 to 21 victory.
Grants Pass trailed at the half 21 to 7. Hannanís return ignited the Caveman and before the third period ended Javan Appling hit Kirkland Meadows with a 42 yard scoring pass to tie the score at 21 all.
North Medfordís Nick Janakes scored the game winner with 6 and a half minutes left.
Four second half turnover doomed the Cavemen.
In other conference action Thurston beat South Medford 38 to 35 and Roseburg remained undefeated downing Crater 27 to 7. Sheldon Returned to its winning form shutting out South Eugene 49 to 0.
The Hidden Valley Mustangs defeated North Eugene 12 to 10 but the other valley school, North Valley, ran into a tough Ridgeview team and lost 47 to 10.
The Illinois Valley Cougars picked up another win, downing Creswell 39 to 19. Rogue River lost to Glide47 to 13.
