The Grants Pass Lady Cavers season ended last night to the number four seed in the state, Clackamas. The first round playoff game ended 55 to 35 in the Cavaliers favor. Jacque Luaders led Grants Pass with 14 points.
Chris Morsa’s 18 points led five North Valley Knights in double figures in a 77 to 66 play-in victory over Klamath Union last night in Merlin. The Knights advance to the first round of the 4A playoffs next Saturday when they visit Marshfield to play the Pirates.
The State Board of Education instituted a rule in 2012 that would require Oregon schools to retire their Native American symbols or nicknames by July of 2017 or risk losing state funding; but now Governor Kitzhaber is expected to soon sign legislation that would allow schools to keep their symbols if agreements can be worked out with local tribes.
The Grants Pass Cavemen host the North Medford Black Tornado tonight at Heater Neuman gym for a game at 7:00. The Tornado, second in conference, leads Grants Pass by three games and have three to play. However because of the tie breaker it appears Grants Pass cannot improve from third place. Third automatically places the Cavemen into the state championship bracket without a play-in game.
