Menacing with Replica Pistol Lands Perpetrator in Jail

A Saturday afternoon confrontation on Spalding Avenue resulted menacing charges being leveled on a 39-year-old man for brandishing a handgun.

Just after 1:00 p.m. City Police Officers were dispatched to the area following a report of a man on a bicycle pulling a gun on two different parties.

Officers contacted William Thomas Melvin on Agness south of “F” Street. According to the officer’s report, Melvin was riding his bike on Spalding when he approached the victim. Melvin alleged he had been the subject of constant harassment by the victim, who made a rude gesture and picked up a rock. This action prompted Melvin to pull his black colored replica Glock BB gun and point it directly at the victim saying he would shoot him in the head.

Melvin was still in possession of the replica firearm in its holster when contacted by authorities. He was lodged in the County Jail facing a charge of Menacing, intimidation/threat and remained there Sunday evening.
