Chris Barnett and Ron Smith will be sworn in today as the newest members of the Josephine County Board of Commissioners before conducting a general discussion at the Courthouse this afternoon.
The first order of business will be an order in the matter of appointing the Chair and Vice-Chair for the Board in 2025. Once the recall election against John West is certified, he will longer be in office. Barnett and Smith will appoint a successor.
The Commissioners will consider two other orders for assigning authority over financial accounts and designating the tax collector for Josephine County.
Policy discussions will include four 10-hour work days and employees taking their work vehicles home.
The most controversial topic will be consideration of charging market rent for the building currently being used by the Grants Pass branch of Josephine Community Library. A long-standing agreement has the library district paying $1 annually for use of the building, but West in December proposed charging rent instead.
Josephine Community Library on Friday announced they would not be attending the meeting, citing inadequate notice and the unavailability of legal counsel. The district requested rescheduling the meeting, but Commissioner West declined.
