Long Time Fugitive Pleads Guilty To 1998 Arson Attempt
Rebecca Rubin, now 40-years-old, pled guilty three times Thursday to arson and conspiracy charges stemming from her membership in the eco-terrorism group, “The Family”.
Appearing in Portland Federal Court, Rubin’s pleas were the latest admission of wrongdoing by that group in a series of arsons across three western states from 1996 to 2001 that included her taking part in the attempted arson of the U.S. Forest Industries building in Medford in early December 1998.
The building was burned by the group in late December but Rubin did not take part in that effort.
In a plea agreement, Rubin agreed to disclosure sessions with the U.S. Attorney’s office. The sessions do not require her to name or give the locations of any of her co-conspirators, including two who remain at large.
Ten people pleaded guilty in 2007 to conspiracy and arson charges and were sentenced to prison.
Rubin remains in custody with no sentencing date yet set.
