Feds File Charges Against Medford Bomber; State Drops its Case
Federal prosecutors have filed a charge of malicious destruction of property by explosion against Alan Leroy McVay for the attempted bombing of the Jackson County District Attorney’s office on November 13th.
Those charges make the state’s prosecution of McVay moot and the Jackson County D.A. has dropped its case.
The 46-year-old McVay is accused of taping a small pipe bomb to a propane tank, igniting the pipe bomb and throwing it at a window of the D.A.’s office.
A tip led police to McVay who, allegedly set off the bomb so he could miss a court date during which he would be sentenced to 36 months in prison on a burglary and other charges.
