Flu spreads to the Rogue Valley
Hospitals throughout the Rogue Valley are reporting an increased incidence of flu.
Three Rivers Medical Center reports 43 patients have been seen in either the emergency department or were admitted directly to the hospital with confirmed cases of the flu. All but one of these flu cases was confirmed to be the H1N1 flu. Those seen at the hospital were predominately young and middle-aged adults.
This year’s flu vaccine contains the H1N1 strain. Those without a flu shot have a one in 20 chance of catching the flu but those with the vaccine have a one in 100 chance.
Other flu preventative measures include: avoiding close contact with others, staying home when sick, covering your mouth and nose when sneezing, washing hands and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with your hands.
