ODOT & Jackson County Agree Over Highway 99 Redesign
Jackson County officials said yesterday they have no problem with the ODOT plan that will eliminate two traffic lanes on Highway 99 between Phoenix and Talent to better accommodate bicyclists and improve safety.
The plan calls for adding center turn lanes in some areas, reducing certain lane sizes and adding shoulders and sidewalks in some areas. ODOT estimates the cost at between $6 and $7 million and should accommodate traffic volumes through 2034.
Traffic volumes have been measured at between 15,000 and 17,000 vehicle trips daily compared to 60 bicycle trips prompting criticism the project is geared toward bicyclists.
