Commissioners issue two proclamations declaring Community Action Month and formally supporting RVFSN
The Josephine County Commissioners during their Wednesday Business Session issued two proclamations, one proclaiming August 2014 as Community Action Month and the other for support of the Rogue Valley Food System Network.
United Community Action Network Chief Operating Officer Kelly Wessels accepted the proclamation for Community Action Month and she paraphrased President Lyndon B. Johnson by saying, “Poverty is a national problem that needs to be fought at the state and local level.”
RVFSN Chair Greg Holmes received the proclamation in support of his network which advocates for healthy and sustainable food production in the Rogue Valley.
Commissioner Simon Hare pointed out that only two percent of food consumed in Josephine County is grown locally and he says irrigation and other systems need to be improved to encourage local agriculture.
