Timber Companies Sue Forest Service & B.L.M. over Logging Halt
Three timber companies, in conjunction with the American Forest Resources Council, filed suit in U.S. District Court in Medford against the U.S. Forest Service and B.L.M arguing the government has no authority under timber sale contracts to force loggers to stop working.

The suit seeks a temporary restraining order lifting the logging shutdown contending direction from the office of management and budget does not require operations on a federal contract to be suspended as long as direct supervision is inessential to the contractor’s work.

The Forest Service last week sent notices to companies to cease operations and put erosion controls in place. B.L.M. followed suit.

The timber companies involved in the suit are Murphy Company out of Eugene, High Cascade Incorporated from Carson, Washington, and South Bay Timber from California.
