Grants Pass Man Sentenced to 4-Years Hard Time
Friday Judge Thomas Hull sentenced Sean Patrick Mitchell, 28, to 48 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections. Mitchell pled guilty to multiple charges including unauthorized use of a vehicle, 1st degree theft, three counts of attempting to elude, being a felon in possession of a firearm, 1st degree criminal mischief and reckless driving. Nine additional counts were disposed of with no conviction.
November sixth last year police responded to the report of a stolen white ’07 Chevy Duramax taken by Mitchell. He led police, Sheriff’s deputies and State Patrol officers on a chase south on the Redwood highway at speeds above 90.
A spike strip deployed just before Selma blew out the right front tire, but Mitchell continued at speeds of 30 to 40 miles per hour up Illinois River Road, eventually crashing into some brush and then fleeing on foot. He was finally tracked by a canine and apprehended in a wooded area. Several stolen firearms were found inside the Duramax.
